Biblical Selections - "I CORINTHIANS 13"
"If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love..." begins St. Paul's beloved text that is presented in its entirety here. This is a favorite print for weddings and anniversaries.
In this print, a striking pink rose is surrounded by the complete 1 Corinthians 13 text calligraphed in blue and rose, is placed amidst a blue, deep rose, and green border suggested by early Christian art.
The artist chose the dog rose, Rosa canina, to symbolize the love expressed in the text. In the language of flowers, R. canina represents love, pleasure, and pain, which suggests the complete and unconditional love described by St. Paul. The rose is beautiful, but the thorns are sharp. It is a biblical rose, and although scholars are uncertain about species of biblical roses, they generally agree on the presence of R. canina during biblical times.
The border designs were adapted from two examples of early Christian art, found in Ravenna, Italy. One is from a marble panel, and the other from an early Christian altar. Perfect Wedding and Anniversary Gift.
