Language of Flowers Selections - "IRIS: MESSAGE"
Susan Loy of Literary Calligraphy in Moneta, VA, joins text from literary classics or Biblical passages with delicate watercolor images and creates a unique bond between fine art and literature.
An iris, named for the Greek goddess of the rainbow -- which Henry Wadsworth Longfellow describes as, "fair among the fairest," is the central bouquet of this painting.
The encircling poem, from Flower-de-Luce, mirrors the purples, blues, golds, greens, and roses of the colorful iris. The bouquet and text are finally encompassed by a stylized pattern of fleur de-lys, named after the French King Louis VII.
