Stationery Selections - "THANK YOU CARD ASSORTMENT"
Susan Loy's Literary Letters® Thank You Card Assortment offers three ways to say thank you and to express appreciation for a memorable meal or visit, for a perfect gift, or for someone's thoughtfulness.
"Thank You, A Charming Visit" is the perfect thank you card for hospitality
or entertainment. The text is from a letter that Thomas Bailey Aldrich wrote
to William Dean Howells in 1875, thanking him for a charming visit.
Thomas Bailey Aldrich wrote this thank you when William Dean Howells lived
on Concord Avenue in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Howells entertained many
literary figures, including Henry James, Mark Twain, and Aldrich who
succeeded Howells as editor of The Atlantic Monthly. The three-story house
on Concord Avenue was built in 1872 for Howells, his wife and three
children.
"Hearty Thanks" is a wonderful thank you card for a gift. The text is from a
thank you letter that George Eliot wrote in 1867 upon receipt of a gift of
bon-bons.
George Eliot is the pen name of Mary Ann or Marian Evans, who wrote this
letter to British publisher, George Smith, thanking him for the pretty box
of bon-bons. Bon-bon, from the French for good-good, refers to a sweet
confection or to any delicacy. She wrote from The Priory, her house in
London's Regent's Park designed by John Nash in the Regency style,
characterized by the elegant use of classical Greek motifs. Eliot moved into
The Priory in 1863 after an interior designer had made "an exquisite thing
of it."
"Thanks, Shakespeare" is the appropriate thank you card for any occasion.
The text is from Shakespeare's Twelfth Night.
William Shakespeare penned this thank you in act 3, scene 3 of Twelfth
Night; Or, What You Will, which first appeared in print in 1623 in the
First Folio Edition. Sebastian, speaks the words to his friend, Antonio, in
this classic comedy of mistaken identity. The title has nothing to do with
the story and is probably due to the play's being performed on January 5,
Twelfth Night.
The cards are reproduced from original Literary Calligraphy watercolors by
Susan Loy. The front of the card shows the main image while the back
contains information about the illustrated text. The inside of the card is
